About me - Andrew Sherratt
Plumbers are a bit like doctors or lawyers, you don't always want one but when you need one, you have to trust them. With this in mind, I think it is important you know a little about me and my company.
From a young age (right/top photo) I loved taps, water and all things mechanical. Perhaps it was inevitable that I would become a plumber. For me it is a fantastic job.If something stops working or starts leaking I want to understand why. I enjoy being a plumber and a gas engineer and I take enormous satisfaction from a job well done.
My aim is simply to do every job as well as it can be done and to continually improve the services I provide. I take time to consider the products and components I use to strike the best balance between cost and performance. I am not affiliated with any particular brands or products, I just pick the ones I would use in my home.
I wasn't always a plumber. I studied mechanical engineering at Exeter University and then became was a mechanical building services engineer for Arup. This means designing heating and ventilation systems for commercial buildings. As a charted engineer I had the privilege of working on prestigious local projects such as the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC) and smaller scale projects such as the RNLI Eastbourne Lifeboat Station. I also worked on international projects like designing a steam heating system for a 600m tower in Seoul. I enjoyed the work I did at Arup but always longed for a more practical role. Less design and more turning spanners!
Eventually I got the courage to re-train as a plumber and gas engineer. My previous work gives me a sound theoretical understanding of the work I do now and my recent training and experience gives me the practical skills needed to implement it. This enables me to help you to get the best out of you heating system. I look forward to working with you soon.
When not plumbing I enjoy designing and building canoes, strimmer engine powered contraptions and more recently plumbing related lamps and candle holders. Now I have a young family, I am thrilled to see my son shows a healthy interest in taps. He is a few years off becoming an apprentice but I have high hopes for the future.
